1. Who this applies to
This policy describes how the Beacon browser extension ("Beacon," "the extension," "we," "us") handles information. It applies to the Beacon extension for Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and other Chromium-based browsers.
2. What Beacon does
Beacon is a developer tool that adds a panel to your browser's Developer Tools. It reads analytics and tag-management network requests, then presents them in decoded form to help developers and analysts debug implementations.
3. Information we collect
We do not collect any information. Beacon has no servers, no accounts of its own, no analytics SDK, no advertising, and no telemetry. We do not receive, log, or access the beacons you inspect, the sites you visit, your settings, or usage information.
4. Data Beacon accesses, and how it is processed
Beacon reads the network requests visible within the Developer Tools session you have open. These requests may contain information placed there by the websites you inspect, including personal data such as email addresses or identifiers carried in analytics or marketing beacons.
- All data is read and decoded locally, in your browser.
- It is never sent to us or to any third party.
- It is not persisted by Beacon beyond the lifetime of your Developer Tools session.
5. Local storage on your device
Beacon uses your browser's local extension storage, such as chrome.storage, to remember preferences like display size, color, and theme. If you use the optional Adobe integration, the access token issued to you is also kept in local storage so you do not have to sign in repeatedly. This information stays on your device and is not transmitted to us.
6. Optional Adobe Experience Platform integration
Beacon includes an optional, off-by-default feature that can resolve Adobe schema, field, and activity identifiers into human-readable names. It only operates if you explicitly connect an Adobe account.
- Authentication is performed through Adobe's own sign-in using your browser's identity flow.
- When enabled, Beacon calls Adobe APIs directly from your browser using your credentials.
- These requests travel between your browser and Adobe and are governed by Adobe's privacy policy.
- If you never enable this feature, Beacon makes no external network requests at all.
7. Permissions Beacon requests, and why
storageto save preferences and, if used, your Adobe token locally.identityto support the optional Adobe sign-in flow.- Host access to Adobe login and platform API domains to authenticate with and read lookups from Adobe APIs when enabled.
8. Data sharing, selling, and advertising
We do not sell, rent, share, or disclose your data because we never collect it. Beacon contains no advertising and does not participate in advertising or data-broker networks.
9. Children's privacy
Beacon is a professional developer tool intended for developers and analysts. It is not directed to children and does not knowingly gather data from anyone.
10. Security
Because Beacon does not collect or transmit your data, there is no central store of it to breach. Data you inspect remains within your own browser session and under your control.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the extension evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated effective date.
12. Trademarks and independence
Beacon is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Adobe, Google, Meta, Microsoft, or any other company whose data formats it helps decode.
13. This website: analytics and cookies
The sections above describe the Beacon extension, which collects nothing. This website can use Google Tag Manager to help us understand how the site is used, for example, which pages are visited and which links are clicked.
- Nothing loads without your consent. Google Tag Manager is not loaded, and no request is sent to Google, unless you choose Accept on the consent banner.
- If you decline, no analytics runs. Your choice is stored in your browser so we do not ask again.
- You can change your choice at any time via the Cookie preferences link in the footer.
- Data collected after consent is governed by Google's privacy policy.
